There’s always a lot happening in Vegas but this week we had announcements that there will be two new hotels to stay at soon and one new casino to play in. The Hotel at Mandalay Bay is undergoing a transformation to be more of a boutique hotel within the Mandalay Bay complex. Delano Las Vegas will officially open in early 2014 but you may be able to squeeze in towards the end of the year. You can sign up for alerts on their website. If you’re not familiar with Delano you can get an idea from their South Beach hotel.
Mandalay Bay has undergone a lot of renovations in the past year. The Four Seasons has all new rooms and many of the restaurants have been refreshed. This weekend their new nightclub called Light opens along with its daytime companion Daylight. Light has entertainment and inspiration from Cirque. Pretty cool.
Lastly on Mandalay Bay and Four Seasons I just learned about this pretty awesome prix fixe steak dinner at Charlie Palmer. For $48 you get a full dinner with BOTTOMLESS WINE. See details here.
The Lady Luck hotel in downtown Vegas has been undergoing massive renovations this year and should reopen later this year or early next year as Downtown Grand. They are slated to begin taking reservations soon. Downtown Grand doesn’t seem like it will be just another casino with a good variety of bars, restaurants, outdoor gaming (!), a pool (a big deal for a downtown casino hotel) and nightclub. Check out some of the articles on Vegas Chatter for more info.
Terrible’s is a gas station chain in Las Vegas but there was also one hotel and casino with the same name located near the Hard Rock. After undergoing $7 million in renovations the name was changed to Silver Sevens casino this week.
Not all hotel news is good news. Las Vegas hotels have resort fees which are added on to the advertised price of the hotel room. So that $100 hotel room may actually cost $115 after resort fee and before taxes. It’s annoying but just about every hotel in Vegas has one. Bally’s and LVH increased their resort fees this week. Boo.
The World Series of Poker gets underway at Rio Las Vegas next week. Here are 5 new things to expect from this year’s tournament from the Las Vegas Sun. If you’re a poker player you’re probably stoked that legal online poker has returned. Ultimate Poker was the first company to open and WSOP will be launching soon.
Sunset Station is celebrating its 16th anniversary June 6th with lots of promotions and free cupcakes! You can find more information on this and all Station Casinos here.
Wet and Wild opens this weekend in the Vegas suburbs for select people. It’s Nevada’s largest water park but only open to season pass holders this week. The rest of the world can enter soon.
Rio Las Vegas will have a new wild (not wet) ride soon. Ziplines and Ziprides are popular right now. The Voodoo Zip Ride will fly from Voodoo Lounge to the Ipanema tower at 33 MPH. I don’t like heights and you won’t see me anywhere near this when it opens later this summer.
Cake Boss, Buddy Vaalastro, will be opening a restaurant at The Venetian soon. No details on the restaurant have been released yet but expect some sweets to be involved. FA4QW7VF7TSW
Lastly, the movie trailer for “Last Vegas” was just released. This seems like an old man version of “The Hangover” and features Morgan Freeman, Robert De Niro and Michael Douglas. The scene at the end of the trailer makes me laugh every time I see it. Also, “The Hangover 3” hits movies today.
