Convention season in Las Vegas kicked off last week with CES blasting into town. Now with the new TV’s and other tech toys out of town it’s time to move on to more conventions. While not the most attended conference or expo in Las Vegas the AVN Adult Expo & Show may be the most popular. AVN is also known as the porn convention. If you’re in Las Vegas this weekend expect to see porn everywhere you look, especially if you’re staying at the host hotel – the Hard Rock.
The AVN Expo used to be paired on the same weekend as CES but that changed a couple years ago. Now AVN is paired with the SHOT Show. The SHOT Show is also called “The Gun Show”. The pairing may or may not be an unintended consequence in planning but everyone involved seems happy.
It seems as if there isn’t a week that goes by where there isn’t something happening at The Linq. This week there are two interesting events – 1 expected and 1 unexpected. In an expected non-event the High Roller observation wheel tested its lights this week. While this isn’t really news it makes for some cool pictures of the new centerpiece of the Vegas Strip skyline. Vital Vegas geeks out on the pretty lights.
Meanwhile, Vegas Chatter is reporting that the recently opened O’Sheas casino at The Linq will be expanding deeper into The Linq. The expanded O’Sheas should be ready by March when much of the retail/dining/drinking/it’snotamall area open. You can see more details on The Linq here.
If you’re missing Las Vegas or casino life you can check out “The Player: Secrets Of A Vegas Whale” on Bloomberg TV next week. The commercial shows a blackjack player that beat Atlantic City casinos for millions a couple of years ago so it may not be too focused on Vegas but it’s close enough to watch.
The Rio is undergoing a few dining changes. Pho Da Nang Vietnamese Kitchen just opened while Sao Paulo Cafe is closing. In Sao Paulo’s place will be a new Hash House A Go-Go restaurant. When Hash House A Go-Go opens the Carnival Buffet will stop serving breakfast.
Next week will be groundbreaking for the 2 acre Harley Davidson dealership on the Vegas Strip. The motorcycle dealership will be located across the street from Mandalay Bay. Las Vegas Review Journal has details and renderings.
If you’re thinking about getting married in Las Vegas there’s a new package available that should be awesome. You can now get married at Joël Robuchon Restaurant at MGM Grand. This is impressive in that Joël Robuchon is one of the few AAA 5 Diamond and Michelin 3 Star restaurants in America. This wedding will cost a pretty penny but should impress anyone. Haute Living has all of the details.
Last but not least I checked out all 3 shows at Rose.Rabbit.Lie this week at the Cosmopolitan. We experienced the full night with dinner and the show and I had a great time. It seems as if there is a vaudeville revival happening in Las Vegas entertainment with this, Beacher’s Madhouse at MGM Grand and Absinthe. Each of the shows are different but the combination that makes Rose.Rabbit.Lie standout is the great vibe of the supper club with the attached show. It’s a great option if you want to see a different type of show and have dinner in the same space.
