Las Vegas is known for a lot of things. Art usually isn’t on the top of the list but there’s plenty to be found all over town. The “Art’s District” in downtown Las Vegas continues to be one of the rapidly growing parts of Sin City. This is a great part of town if you like a walkable downtown area that has a very different vibe than the casino areas. While this part of Las Vegas is great for visitors looking for an alternative option, we know most tourists will stick to the casino corridors downtown and the Vegas Strip.
Bellagio is one of the most art-centric casinos in Las Vegas. One of the first things you notice when entering the lobby is the gorgeous glass ceiling from Dale Chihuly. There’s art throughout the property from the Bellagio Fine Arts Gallery to the Picasso restaurant. MGM Resorts will actually be partnering with Sotheby’s to auction some artwork from Picasso.
“It’s an honor to collaborate with Sotheby’s to bring this first-of-its-kind art and entertainment experience to Las Vegas and embark on this momentous auction,” said Ari Kastrati, MGM Resorts’ Chief Hospitality Officer. “We welcome millions of visitors from around the world annually throughout our resorts, giving us a tremendous platform for showcasing diverse perspectives within the art community.
Picasso Auction At Bellagio
MGM Resorts and Sotheby’s will present a first-of-its-kind marquee Evening Sale of masterworks by Pablo Picasso. This will happen just in time for Picasso’s 140th birthday this October.
The auction of works by Picasso will take place live at Bellagio on Saturday, October 23.
This auction will mark the largest fine art auction to ever take place in Las Vegas. The auction comes as MGM Resorts reshapes its public fine art portfolio. The company will update its art collections and focus on diversity and inclusion.
Kastrati says, “While diversity has long been in MGM Resorts’ DNA, we are committed to creating an even more inclusive collection that maintains the breadth of our existing portfolio while giving a greater voice to artists from under-represented communities.”
This is a unique collaboration between Sotheby’s and MGM. The partnership will represent the first time Sotheby’s is hosting a marquee Evening Sale in North America outside its signature New York venue. The auction will feature a recreation of Sotheby’s saleroom in Las Vegas.
You don’t have to be in Las Vegas to enjoy the auction. The Marquee Auction will be available via livestream on Sothebys.com.
View Picasso’s Art In Las Vegas
Pre-sale exhibitions of the full selection of Picasso’s work will take place at the Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art from October 21- 23. There will also be showings in New York, Hong Kong, and Taipei. All exhibitions are complimentary and open to the public. This is a rare free art exhibition of Picasso’s art in Las Vegas.
There will also be an accompanying auction and a four-day exhibition of luxury property specially curated by Sotheby’s. This will be on display at Aria from October 21-24. This exhibition will feature a selection of the world’s finest luxury objects. Items on display will include automobiles, jewelry and watches, handbags, sneakers, and more.
Property from the exhibition will be available at auction at Sotheby’s New York at the end of October. These items will also be available for bidding online at Sothebys.com and via the Sotheby’s app.
