If you’ve been to Vegas in the past year you’ve probably noticed a ton of construction happening on the Vegas strip. The middle of the Vegas strip is undergoing a major metamorphosis with Caesars Entertainment closing O’Sheas and Bill’s Gambling Hall while renovating and turning the Imperial Palace into The Quad. Much of this is being done to create room for The Linq which will be a shopping, dining and entertainment district anchored by the largest observation wheel in North America. Construction on The Linq is scheduled to end by the end of the year but there might be some work that carries over to next year.

The Linq will be located directly in the middle of the Vegas strip across the street from Caesars Palace. Here’s a glimpse at the variety of shopping and dining options that will be available when The Linq is complete.

  • Yardhouse – Restaurant and Bar chain with a great beer selection.
  • Sprinkles – Famous LA cupcake bakery.
  • Brooklyn Bowl – A concert venue with bowling, bar and restaurant. The NYC location is great!
  • Nas’ Shoe Store (name TBD) – We told you about this a few weeks ago.

There are more stores that have  been announced as tenants at The Linq with more still to coming. If you’re jonsin’ for Vegas you can watch their live construction webcam or just read more about the stores. The shopping area is designed to lead you to the observation wheel at The Linq. The base of the giant observation wheel is already in place and now the wheel is arriving and being put together. The observation wheel will be off the strip and behind Flamingo and The Quad and will offer some amazing views for people riding.

The Quad is the name of the casino that’s taking the place of Imperial Palace. This isn’t just a name change. The casino and resort is currently being remodeled from top to bottom and the outside is getting a major facelift. The Quad will have a major light component facing the Vegas strip called the Vortex. Here’s a picture of The Quad from Caesars Palace while the lights were being tested.

While the casino and resort is currently being renovated  the hotel rooms aren’t being touched yet. There hasn’t been any mention of room renovations but we have to assume that will happen after The Linq and The Quad are completed.

If you miss the vibe from the O’Sheas casino there will be some form of the old casino built into The Linq. Rumor is that it will be a small section of the casino floor at The Quad. The Quad remodel is almost complete and The Linq should be finished by the end of the year.

But wait…there’s more! Earlier this year Bill’s Gambling Hall was closed for a top to bottom remodel. Bill’s is located away from The Linq on the corner of Las Vegas Blvd. and Flamingo. There is some major destruction happening to Bill’s in order to make way for the new boutique hotel casino named Gansevoort Las Vegas. The renderings of Gansevoort Las Vegas look pretty sweet. This construction is supposed to be complete by spring of 2014 but there are already rumors that this is behind schedule.

This is the beginning of the new Vegas strip. When construction on The Linq and The Quad is completed by the end of the year the center of the Vegas strip will look entirely different. Between 2014 and 2015 the south end of the strip will also have a new face with the MGM construction being planned and if you want to look even further into the future the north end of the strip will have two new hotels by 2016 in Resorts World Las Vegas and SLS Hotel Las Vegas.
