The Westin has been one of the most popular casino-hotels in Las Vegas for people who travel for work regularly. The hotel has undergone a major renovation over the past year and no longer has a casino. Gasp! Maybe.
The Westin is located just east of the Las Vegas Boulevard behind The Cromwell. However, this has never been a popular destination because of the small casino. The big selling point for the Westin is that it’s a part of one of the largest and most popular travel loyalty groups in the world.
Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) is a partner with 11 hotel brands including Westin and Sheridan. They have more than 1,500 hotels in over 100 countries. The only SPG hotel on the Vegas Strip is The W at SLS Las Vegas. They became even larger after being purchased by Marriott in 2016. After the merger SPG loyalists have even more properties for travelers to earn and use loyalty rewards.
Back to the Westin in Las Vegas.
The biggest change to the property is that there is no longer a casino floor. The space is now being used for Jake & Eli, an original restaurant and lobby bar concept. The renovation also added new meeting spaces and upgraded existing rooms.
The major attraction of the transformation of the Westin is Jake & Eli. This is a vibrant culinary experience that will be unique to The Westin. The restaurant is inspired by the imagined meeting of two innovators credited with being the first to create the much-loved concept of American bourbon. Guests can expect a mouth-watering mix of classic comfort food and signature cocktails. A décor featuring exposed brick walls, industrial chandeliers, high-top seating and plush booths creates a contemporary setting, perfect for business and leisure travelers alike.
“Travelers often mix work and play when they come to Las Vegas, and our proximity to The Strip gives us the opportunity to offer an alternative to the typical casino property while staying true to The Westin brand,” said Lezlie Young, General Manager of The Westin Las Vegas Hotel & Spa. “We are proud to unveil the new venues and upgraded amenities to best serve our guests. Plus, our new concierge team are Las Vegas experts who will anticipate guests’ every need, making everyone feel like a VIP.”
The restaurant isn’t the new amenity to come from the renovation at the Westin. The new lobby-level design complements the previous enhancements made last year, which included updating the 826 guest rooms and suites and reimagining the Hibiscus Spa and Salon. They also added a Westin Workout Fitness Studio that customers might be familiar with.
The renovation of the property is almost complete. The final phase of improvements will include the outdoor pool area. This area should be complete before the summer.
Budget conscious gamblers shouldn’t count out the Westin just because they don’t have a casino. Consider using SPG rewards for rooms at the Westin and gambling at The Cromwell, Flamingo or Bally’s. Each of the three casinos is a few minutes away from the front door. The casinos offer relatively low limits. The Cromwell has some of the best gambling rules on the Vegas Strip.
