Just over two years ago, Sir Richard Branson announced that he and a group of investors purchased the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. The initial plan was to renovate the property and create Virgin Hotels Las Vegas. The original Fall of 2019 opening was pushed back as the company continued to develop plans for the transformation into Virgin Hotels Las Vegas. After pushing back the opening once more to the second quarter of 2020, the company finally solidified late 2020 as the new opening timeframe.

In March, non-essential businesses, including casinos, in Las Vegas were closed to slow the spread of coronavirus. This hasn’t stopped progress for Virgin Hotels or any other construction or renovation projects. Construction is an essential business activity.

The Hard Rock closed earlier this year to make renovating the property easier on the team in charge of the renovations. Construction on Virgin Hotels Las Vegas may slow down but the property is still on target to open by the end of the year. The most recent estimate is that Virgin Las Vegas will open after Election Day.

Massive Transformation

Virgin Hotels Las Vegas will undergo a massive transformation. The new design probably won’t bring back many memories from the Hard Rock. Here’s a preview video from late 2019.

Here are some more details ob the transformation from the website:

Virgin Hotels is ready to shake up the Las Vegas scene with a lifestyle hotel that will be exciting, innovative, uniquely designed, and exceptionally functional. Get comfy and connected in one of its 1504 Chambers, Grand Chambers, and Penthouse suites, which feature the Virgin Hotels ergonomically designed patented bed and in-room technology.

Re-conceptualized and revitalized, Virgin Hotels Las Vegas will feature 60,000 square feet of fully-renovated casinos, over five acres of luxe upgraded outdoor space and pools, new world-class restaurants, lounges, and bars, as well as 130,000 square feet of remodeled meeting, event and convention spaces.

A few restaurants like Nobu and MB Steak will remain at Virgin Las Vegas. However, just about everything else from the casino floor to the hotel rooms will be different.

Loyalty Programs at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas

Virgin Las Vegas will have at least three loyalty programs – two for the hotel and one for the casino.

Virgin Hotels has its own loyalty program called The Know. This club offers the best rates on hotel rooms and discounts at Virgin operated restaurants. This also allows nightly access to “Spirit Hour” – their complimentary happy hour for hotel guests.

Virgin Hotels Las Vegas is part of the Hilton Honors Curio Collection. When Virgin opens it will be the only Curio Collection property in Las Vegas. The Curio Collection by Hilton is an upper upscale, global portfolio of more than 65 one-of-a-kind hotels and resorts around the world.

Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment will operate the casino at Virgin Las Vegas. They will bring the Momentum rewards program to Las Vegas. This casino loyalty club works at casinos in Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and more.
