This week’s big Las Vegas news started with a bang as it was announced that the National Finals Rodeo (NFR) would be leaving for an unbuilt arena in Orlando, FL. The uproar on twitter was insane. Nobody bothered to read the articles and listen to the whole story on the news, because who reads the news nowadays? This was just the beginning of negotiations. The annual cowboy gathering in Las Vegas may still remain in Las Vegas. At least there’s an existing arena.
The hotel next to Flamingo used to be called Barbary Coast and most recently Bills before closing to be renovated into a boutique hotel-casino. Originally it was a partnership with Gansevoort Hotels but that relationship went south and now it looks like it will be called The Cromwell when it opens next year. This hasn’t been confirmed by Caesars Entertainment but Vegas Seven is a fairly reliable source.
Just north on the strip construction is coming to an end on The Linq. At least the constriction near the strip is coming to an end. 6 outlets of the mixed shopping area will be opening on December 27. A few restaurants and O’Sheas casino will be opening this year while the rest, including the giant observation wheel, will open next year.
Speaking of rides, Slotzilla looks as if it will officially be opening in February. Slotzilla is the giant slot machine that you’ll see outside on Fremont Street that doubles as a zipline ride. It’s simply a crazy thing to see in person. You may remember that we detailed Slotzilla earlier this year.
SLS Hotel opens next year on the north end of the Vegas Strip where Sahara once stood. Details about the hotel and casino are slowly being leaked. You can get a sneak peek at what the hotel rooms will look like through these renderings on Vegas Tripping.
If you dig renderings and are curious to see what the renovations between Monte Carlo and New York-New York will look like Vegas Tripping also has some pictures for you. Renderings are never exact but this will give you an idea about what the area should look like.
Big news across the street at MGM Grand as someone hit a MegaBucks slot machine for more than a cool $10 million! It seems as if MegaBucks hits at different MGM Resorts more than any other hotel (or chain). It just seems that way.
Beacher’s Madhouse opens at MGM Grand later this month and will have Miley Cyrus as a special guest. Their press release says that we should “Expect the unexpected”. Okay. Las Vegas Weekly has more details.
Last but not least Rose. Rabbit. Lie. at Cosmopolitan is a supper club concept that seems strange but interesting. They released a commercial that does nothing to give a clear idea of what we should expect. Reviews should be interesting if nothing else.
Okay, one last bit of info that’s not really news – just a tip. If you’re in Las Vegas right now you can head to Gold Coast for $2 well drinks and beer. It’s a sweet deal and a quiet hotel with a great Chinese restaurant, Ping Pang Pong.
