Las Vegas casinos continue to reopen. Park MGM and NoMad Las Vegas recently reopened as the only smoke-free casino-resort on the Vegas Strip. Planet Hollywood once rumored to reopen without smoking will open its doors once again on Oct. 8. The doors to Planet Hollywood will be open every day but guests will only be able to book hotel rooms from Thursday to Sunday.
Both casino re-openings are steps forward for Las Vegas but things are still slowly getting back to normal. Like the rest of the world, it will take time for Las Vegas to be the vacation destination loved by so many people.
While most casinos are open, entertainment is limited to small spaces. Restaurants and other amenities like spas may be operating on leaner hours. Having said that, this is still Vegas baby! Let’s go!

Planet Hollywood (Opening Oct. 8)

Planet Hollywood will reopen on Oct. 8 at 10 a.m. Caesars is following a similar opening plan as The Linq Hotel and Casino. Some of the property will be open all of the time. Other parts will only be open select hours and days.
The casino at Planet Hollywood will be open all day every day. Hotel rooms will only be available during the weekend when many more people are visiting Las Vegas.

“Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino is the centerpiece of the famed Las Vegas Strip, and we are pleased to announce the reopening of the hotel for weekend stays, along with gaming, restaurants and other amenities, at this resort on Oct. 8,” said Senior Vice President and Planet Hollywood General Manager Jason Gregorec. “We look forward to welcoming guests back with a continued emphasis on our enhanced health and safety protocols.”

Park MGM & NoMad Las Vegas Reopen

Park MGM and NoMad Las Vegas reopened their doors on Sept. 30. The property became the Vegas Strip’s only fully smoke-free casino resort. Related – the Cosmopolitan recently changed its smoking policy). Reopening Park MGM completes MGM Resorts’ reopening cycle. All MGM Resorts properties in Las Vegas are now open.

“Opening Park MGM and NoMad represent significant milestones, as they are the last of our properties to welcome back employees and guests alike,” said Bill Hornbuckle, MGM Resorts CEO and President. “The last six months have presented extraordinary challenges and I could not be prouder of the MGM Resorts team for the tireless effort required to get us here. There is much work ahead as we remain focused on the health and safety of our employees and guests, but this is an important moment for us.”

Park MGM reopening entirely smoke-free is an anomaly. This is the only casino making such a strong move towards going smoke-free. For comparison, when Circa opens at the end of October, it will allow smoking per usual. While the Cosmopolitan has changed the smoking policy in public spaces guests can still light up while gambling or lounging.
The Cosmopolitan dipping its toes in the smoke-free pool could be a sign that other casinos might consider changing their smoking policy in the future. These two properties could begin a major shift towards more properties limiting smoking or banning it entirely in the future.
