Karaoke is fun for all involved but it’s not something that’s available at most bars throughout the country. It’s especially difficult to find a place to get up on stage in Las Vegas. When you sing at a karaoke bar, you’re the star. Most people in the bar are watching you. This means that everyone in the bar isn’t buying a drink for those 4 to 5 minutes. It’s understandable why many bars wouldn’t want to cater to karaoke. They want to make every penny they can. That said, there are a few places in Las Vegas where you can take center stage and sing your face off. That may be good and that may be bad. Here are the best karaoke bars in Las Vegas.
The most popular karaoke bar in Las Vegas is Dino’s Lounge. Dino’s may look like a locals dive bar but it’s much more than that. Like with many dive bars there is a rich history at Dino’s. What’s important for today is that Dino’s is the most popular karaoke bar in Las Vegas. Dino’s has the cheap drinks and good times you should expect from a dive karaoke bar. Like with many of the awesome bars and restaurants in Las Vegas you won’t find Dino’s in a casino. However, Dino’s is located close to the action at 1516 S. Las Vegas Blvd. It’s on the Vegas strip just north of Sahara but you’ll probably want to take a cab here unless you’re staying at the Stratosphere.
A slow week in Las Vegas is like a normal news week in most cities. This week served as a reminder that we’re about to head into “Convention Season” in Las Vegas. There are conventions throughout September and October. Some conventions, like the Global Gaming Expo (G2E), will fill just about every hotel room in town while smaller conventions like the swizzle stick convention will only bring about 20 people. All of this is a reminder that hotel rooms will be occupied and rates will be high. If you’re planning for any visits to Las Vegas before Halloween you may want to plan now. You can view a list of conventions here.
While G2E is on my mind I might as well give the lowdown on that convention. This is the largest gathering of casino businesses of the year. While there is a lot of business that goes on behind the scenes this is where new casino games will first see the light of day. If you are a fan of slot machines keep your eyes peeled for lots of news throughout September. If you want a head start you can check out the new Superman Comic slot machine.
Las Vegas is great for many reasons but one of the biggest benefits is that there are so many ways to experience the town. One of my favorite ways to experience Las Vegas has changed a little but not too much. Ever since I first visited Downtown Vegas I’ve enjoyed myself there. Downtown Vegas was, and still is, different than the Vegas strip and that’s part of the fun. The Vegas Strip and Downtown Vegas offer different experiences and that’s something that should never go unappreciated.
Even though I had a great time in Downtown Vegas it wasn’t love – it was a strong like and my friends and I only wanted to stay for a little while. My friends and I started to plan high/low day(s) during our vacations. On high/low days we’d spend part of the day playing $3 blackjack and drinking cheap beer at El Cortez then we’d head back to the strip where we’d shower, suit up (or casually dress up), enjoy to a nice meal with a bottle of wine or two, play higher limits tables and venture into a club. This made our days diverse and a whole lot of fun. My friends and I have always been medium sized rollers and were as comfortable playing both high and low limits. Our tastes in everything are this way and days like this enable us to experience how the low and high rollers each did Vegas.
You wouldn’t go to Athens, Greece without photographing the Acropolis, or to Agra, India without snapping a single photo of the Taj Mahal. When visiting Vegas, though, there’s so much to see that it can be overwhelming. In a city where almost everything is a photo opportunity, how do you zero in on the best shots? Whether your pictures will be for filling a photo album with memories, showing off your best camera skills, or just making your friends jealous on Facebook, these are the don’t-miss opportunities for the coolest photos in Las Vegas.
The Iconic Vegas Sign
The charmingly retro sign reading “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” is possibly the best-known visual representation of the city. It’s had a long time to imprint itself on the public conscience — it’s been around since 1959, when Elvis was still making movies and Frank Sinatra had hit records. Today, it’s on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places, and its place in Vegas history is undeniable. A recently-built parking lot makes access to the sign safer than it used to be, so there’s no excuse for missing this piece of Vegas history.
The Scenery at Red Rock Canyon
Just 19 miles west of Las Vegas, the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area isn’t just a respite from the clanging sounds of the casinos and the bright lights of the city, it’s also a chance to see and photograph some of nature’s most stunning scenery. Zoom in and get some close-up shots of the natural vegetation, like the bright yellow Desert Marigold or the bizarre red-spotted Fishhook Nipple Cactus, or go big and shoot the view from one of the highest peaks. The red sandstone has been sculpted into natural arches, bridges and other fascinating formations over millions of years, as the canyons, which used to be under water, emerged from the sea. Keep an eye out for lizards and birds, too — the canyon is teeming with wildlife.
Landmarks From Around the World
There’s no other city that offers its tourists a chance to photograph the world’s greatest landmarks all in one area, but that’s the beauty of Las Vegas. At Paris Las Vegas you can photograph a replica of the Eiffel Tower, the Paris Opera House and the Arc De Triomphe, then tromp over to the Venetian to snap the gondolas on the Grand Canal and the Rialto Bridge. If that’s not enough world travel for you, you can also find the Great Sphinx of Giza at the Luxor, and the Statue of Liberty at New York New York Hotel & Casino. Keep an eye peeled, and you’ll spot more world landmarks all around town.
The Vegas Strip is currently having a major metamorphosis. In a couple years it will be very different than the Vegas Strip that many of us grew up with. Treasure Island is getting in on the Vegas Strip renovations. The renovations would mean that Sirens of TI lagoon gets a little smaller while the boardwalk gets bigger. New additions to TI will including a restaurant, pharmacy and car dealership. The best news is that the Sirens of TI show will remain. You can watch the full show in HD on YouTube if you miss it.
A couple more shows that won’t be going away include Rod Stewart and Shania Twain at Caesars Palace. Rod Stewart’s contract has been extended by two years with 9 new shows in November. Meanwhile “Shania: Still The One” returns to The Colosseum at Caesars Palace this October.
If you’ve seen Rod and Shania and are looking for a new show to see then look no further than Planet Hollywood. A few weeks ago we mentioned that there would be a new show called “Rocktellz & Cocktails” opening at Planet Hollywood which will be a “Storytellers” type concert event. At the time there was no artist mentioned as part of the show but this week it was confirmed that Meatloaf would be the first resident artist to perform and tell stories. The residency begins September 26 and you can find more information at rocktellz.com.
I know it has been a little while since I have written for TravelVegas.com but Las Vegas is never far from my mind! I have not been to my favorite Sin City in almost two months and can’t wait to return in a little over a week. I will be there for almost ten days and ready to rock it! I may even stay longer as there is never enough time to do what I want for the days and nights I am there.
For the first part of the trip I will be with mom but left to my own devices for the second part. I thought I would give you a peak into my itinerary, as I am very excited to go hit my favorites haunts and stop at some new places too.
As usual, I will be staying at The Signature and the MGM and recommend it highly for anyone who wants to go to Las Vegas but likes the option of being away from the craziness of the casinos. The only thing I should mention is that Wet Republic is open and sometimes you can get a little more than your bargained for as in terms of shows in the lobby (if you know what I mean). If you don’t know about Wet Republic then I suggest you visit this crazy pool party or decide to stay VERY far away. This all depends on what you are looking to accomplish. If you want to party then Wet Republic is a top pool party in Las Vegas. If you are looking for a more mellow experience, I suggest one of the three pools at Wet Republic or if you have children the lazy river at the MGM Grand Hotel is always a good time!
Casino players clubs have evolved over the years in a manner similar to the way the casino has evolved into a casino hotel & resort. Once used to track how much you gamble, players clubs can now track how much you spend in every area of a casino. Players club cards are now more similar to loyalty club cards at supermarkets than the slot club cards of yesteryear. Like other loyalty programs casino hotel players clubs offer various rewards and benefits based on how you spend your money.
Players clubs are a good deal for both the casino resort and the customer. Casino resort players clubs enable them to follow every dollar you spend on their property in exchange for comp points and discounts on the things you use at the resort. It’s a win-win. The casino bean counters can follow the dollars in exchange for discounts or free items on their property. The exchange creates mutual loyalty for both the customer and the casino hotel.
Not all casinos offer comps for all money spent but a few years ago The Venetian’s players club, Grazie, started to credit players club accounts when for all money spent. Other players clubs in Las Vegas like Total Rewards and MGM Resorts’ MLife have since followed.
Until you live in Las Vegas you don’t realize how big of a deal weather is. People freak out if it rains or gets too hot or too cold. It’s amazing. It’s currently monsoon season in Las Vegas and that means that it rains in small areas really hard for 15 minutes to an hour. Last week the touristy areas of Vegas, the strip and downtown, got tagged with floods and power outages. Vegas Chatter did a great job compiling tweets with pictures and video if you care to see what can happen during a monsoon. Monsoons can happen at any time. There’s a 20% chance of a thunderstorm almost every day so just enjoy the beautiful Las Vegas summer.
Earlier this summer Bagatelle Beach Club opened at the Tropicana. It was a nightclub with a pool and dayclub with an area for grabbing some lunch outside. It was quite nice but the Tropicana isn’t a hot spot right now and the beach club is closing this weekend. It will be renamed as the Havana Beach Club and only open for special events. Frankly, this could be a great spot for a company outing or party during a convention.
There are lots of reasons to go to Vegas, whether it’s for business, gambling, getting married, sightseeing, or shopping. While each type of travel plan is completely different, they all have something in common: no one wants to do any of them while stressed. Luckily for Vegas travelers, relaxation is around just about every corner in the form of some of the world’s best hotels and spas. Vegas spas offer luxury treatments and unique services you can’t always get elsewhere. Treat yourself to one of these spa experiences, and whatever your plans in the city, you’ll be ready for them with a relaxed body and clarity of mind.
Red Flower Hammam Experience at the Cosmopolitan
The Sahra Spa & Hammam is built on the concept of ancient Turkish baths, which themselves evolved out of the luxurious bathing rituals favored by the Roman elite. You’ll feel like an emperor yourself upon entering the sandstone halls that lead to this oasis in the desert, complete with a monsoon rain cave. Sahra’s Red Flower Hammam Experience has several levels, and begins with basking on a heated stone slab before basins of water are poured over your body so slowly that they feel like gentle waves. A therapeutic anointing with eleven flower oils follows, then an exfoliating body scrub and a cardamom-scented wrap complete the treatment.
Gemstone Massage at Trump International Hotel
The Trump name has always signified over-the-top luxury, and the Spa at Trump continues that tradition. While hot-stone massages are a common spa service, the Spa at Trump offers a more rare experience: gemstone massages. In fact, the treatment is so rare, it’s only offered at four of the Trump hotels. The full-body massage uses oils that are some of the most exclusive in the world — even without the gemstones. Made with 100% essential oils (most massage oils are at most 20%, with the rest being carrier oil), the luxury oils are infused with crushed diamond, emerald, sapphire and ruby. You can actually see the gemstones, which are then applied to your body in a one-of-a-kind treatment that is decidedly deserving of the Trump name.
It’s football season! We know this because a new pro football website, TheMMQB.com, debuted this week and because NFL teams begin training camp this week. The Hall Of Fame game will be the first NFL preseason game and that takes place on Sunday August, 4. The first regular season NFL game is a month later on September 5 with the following Sunday being the first full day of NFL football. It’s time to get busy planning Sunday’s for the rest of the year!
All sportsbooks are great.
Some sportsbooks in Las Vegas are better than others but the concept of hanging out, betting on games, watching all 8 to 15 of those games at once without paying a cover charge is undeniably great. Most people can’t do this at home and with sports fans from all over the country congregated in a small space, why would you want to? The fun in casinos always provides a good time but the camaraderie in the sportsbook is unlike any else you’ll find in any casino. For sports fans like me a Sunday in the sportsbook used to be one of the main reasons to visit Vegas.
