I stayed at MGM Grand on my first couple of trips to Las Vegas. The first trip was with a friend who already booked a room. We had such a good time that we booked a room at MGM Grand for the following year. This became an annual December trip to Las Vegas that some friends still enjoy.
During those first trips to Las Vegas, we rarely left the property. When we did leave it was to visit New York-New York or Tropicana. MGM Grand is connected to each property by a bridge so it almost felt as though they were just an extension of our home base.
MGM Grand offered just about everything we could imagine so there wasn’t much of a reason to leave. When we wanted a change of scenery we crossed the street to one of the other properties. Seriously, MGM Grand is a massive casino-resort and to this day still has just about everything you could need when visiting Las Vegas.
MGM Grand Casino And Hotel
The casino floor at MGM Grand is 161,000 square feet and has more than 12,000 slot machines and 1,125 table games. The sportsbook is more than 6,000 square feet and the poker room is just under 6,000 square feet. Altogether, the casino floor at MGM Grand more than 3.5 acres of gaming space.
MGM Grand has 6,852 hotel rooms. Not only do they have a lot of rooms but they have different styles for different budgets. West wing and Grand rooms are often the least expensive. The main hotel also has Stay Well rooms and suites. These rooms promote wellness with aromatherapy, air purification, and additional wellness-focused amenities.
Anyone looking for a more grand experience (pun intended) can choose the gorgeous SkyLofts or rooms at The Signature. High rollers can even gain access to villas at the exclusive Mansion that’s off-limits to most visitors.
MGM Grand Amenities
During my repeated visits to MGM Grand, I never went to one of the most popular amenities. The Grand Pool Complex bills itself as “6.5 acres of fun.” The pool area includes four swimming pools, three whirlpools, and a lazy river. Of course, there are cabanas and daybeds, along with food and beverage service. This is just the main pool area. There’s also Wet Republic for anyone looking for a daytime party.
MGM Grand is also home to plenty of events. National touring events take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. The property is also home to KÀ by Cirque du Soleil, Jabbawockeez, David Copperfield, and Brad Garrett’s Comedy Club.
MGM Grand is also home to the flagship location for Topgolf. This is a must-visit for any sports fan. In addition to the fun golf games, Topgolf has multiple bars (some with video poker), high-quality food, music performances, two pools and more. Topgolf is an over-the-top experience you’d expect from Las Vegas.
Great Property For Anyone New To Las Vegas
Today, I find MGM Grand to be a massive inconvenience for me as a local. The self-parking garage feels as though it’s a mile away from the actual property. I just find MGM Grand too large to quickly navigate compared to other casinos. That’s how I feel today as a lazy local that wants to get to everything quickly.
As a tourist new to Las Vegas, I found MGM Grand to be amazing. This is still one of the first casinos I recommend to someone visiting Las Vegas for the first time – especially if they have kids. There are so many events, amenities and things to do at MGM Grand that it’s difficult to find a better place to start visiting Las Vegas.
