There were two new Las Vegas shows announced this week. The big news this week is the Lady Gaga Las Vegas residency. This has been in the works for over a year now. Unfortunately, the Lady Gaga residency won’t start until December 2018. This show will be a two-year residency at the Park Theater at Monte Carlo/Park MGM. Ticket prices and show dates will be announced next year.
Lady Gaga isn’t the only show to be announced this week. Renegades at Caesars Palace will be a more intimate show with for an entirely different audience. This show is specifically for sports fans. Renegades will open on Thursday, Jan. 25 inside Cleopatra’s Barge, the intimate 180-seat theater at Caesars Palace.
The small room will allow fans to get up close and personal with sports legends including Jose Canseco, Jim McMahon, and Terrell Owens. Renegades has potential to be awesome, a train wreck or both for any sports fan. There will be appearances by other sports stars including Jimmy King from the Fab Five University of Michigan basketball team.
The starting line-up includes baseball great Jose Canseco and two-time Super Bowl champion Jim McMahon. The Fab Five’s Jimmy King will appear during the first eight shows, with six-time NFL Pro Bowler Terrell Owens taking over starting Thursday, Feb. 8. (To be clear, Terrell Owens will not appear in the shows from January 25 through February 4). The shows will be hosted by comedian Martin Montana, with Eric Jordan Young serving as writer, director, and creative director. The Renegades roster will rotate athletes every three months.
About each player:
- Jose Canseco: He spent 17 years in the Major Leagues accomplishing impressive accolades such as Rookie of the Year and American League MVP. He also made six All-Star Game appearances.
- Jim McMahon: He’s best known at times for being the controversial Chicago Bear who clashed with his coach, Mike Ditka, and NFL commissioner Pete Rozelle.
- Terrell Owens: TO is best known for saying “that’s my quarterback” after a game with the Cowboys. I’m kidding. He had 1,078 Receptions, 15,935 yards, and 153 touchdowns during the span of his 15-year NFL career.
- Jimmy King – He was part of the “the greatest class ever recruited” for college basketball. The University of Michigan team included future NBA stars Chris Webber, Jalen Rose, and Juwan Howard.
Renegades is co-produced by Rich Lenkov, Michael Speyer, and Jordan Fiksenbaum. “You think you know these athletes’ stories, but trust me, you have no idea!” said Lenkov. “Renegades will offer the most unique entertainment experience on The Strip, where some of the most infamous names in sports will take you through the highs and lows of their careers in an intimate setting.”
Renegades will take place Thursday through Sunday at 8 p.m. beginning Thursday, Jan. 25. Tickets are $75 and $100, with a VIP package available for $300 which includes VIP seating, a photo, merchandise and a meet and greet with the athletes in Montecristo Cigar Bar after the show. I’ve seen Canseco playing poker at Caesars Palace, so you might get a chance to play cards with him after the after show is over.
