Prices on the Vegas Strip have forced some Las Vegas visitors to look elsewhere for their budget. Well, you don’t need to be far from the Vegas Strip to find affordable entertainment, meals, and accommodations. There are plenty of casino-hotels near the Vegas Strip that offer low prices. Unfortunately, low prices don’t always mean value. Some things are cheap for a reason. One of the best values off the Vegas Strip today is about half a block behind Bally’s.
Ellis Island Casino, Hotel, and Brewery is just off the Vegas Strip on Koval Lane. It’s always been affordable but it over the past year it becomes one of the best values near the Vegas Strip. Ellis Island isn’t a new property. It’s been around for nearly 50 years and has always had affordable dining, drinking, and gambling. However, the Super 8 Hotel didn’t make the casino a destination for everyone. That’s no longer the case.
Last year we told you that Ellis Island broke ground on a new bar, restaurant, and entertainment venue called the Front Yard. The Front Yard is slated to open this summer. Since this announcement last year Ellis Island has taken over operation of the hotel and did a gut renovation of all 289 guest rooms and 12 suites.
Every hotel room was renovated and features all-new tile, carpets, bathrooms, and furnishings. Thankfully, the rooms were designed with today’s traveler in mind. Each room has USB chargers on bedside tables, mini refrigerators, and safes included free of charge. In today’s Las Vegas you might have to pay extra for the refrigerator and/or safe for your room.
Those refrigerators should come in handy since Ellis Island is famous for their dining specials. You can order way too much food for way less than $20 and save the leftovers or a late night snack. So, you have an affordable meal that doubles as a “free” snack. Deals are deals and saving $5 on a late night slice of pizza is a good deal.
Ellis Island has a promotion right now for the renovated hotel rooms. Each room will include a free 32-ounce growler, along with a complimentary pour of any Ellis Island Brewery craft beer. While the beers aren’t very expensive (each craft beer is about half the price of a beer on the Vegas Strip) a free beer is always nice. Non-beer drinkers can enjoy a root beer instead of booze beer.
“Our top priority is providing our guests with a comfortable place to unwind, while providing all of the amenities that the modern traveler expects,” said Christina Ellis, Ellis Island’s director of marketing. “As we approach our 50th anniversary in April, the time was right to further enhance the guest experience. And, as always, guests are a short walk from a great meal and a $2 Ellis Island craft beer.”
In addition to the Front Porch and new hotel rooms, Ellis Island is renovating the entire property. Renovations include a remodeled cashier’s cage, sportsbook, additional casino space and increased food and beverage options.
As of the writing of this article, the renovated hotel rooms at Ellis Island start at under $50. Special note for sports fans: Ellis Island is a great location for March Madness. The William Hill sportsbook should have small lines to place wagers or set up an account and proximity to the Vegas Strip means that you won’t have to sacrifice any of the great Vegas locations you might normally visit.
